How Shillong Night Teer Works: Covered Pavilion Archery Guide
1. What is Shillong Night Teer?
Shillong Night Teer is a nocturnal archery exhibition conducted inside the covered sports pavilion at Polo Grounds, Shillong. Designed to accommodate evening sports enthusiasts across Meghalaya and Northeast India, this late-night competition runs Monday through Saturday. The competition features two floodlit rounds: Round 1 at 10:30 PM IST and Round 2 at 11:30 PM IST, concluding daily archery sporting events in the state.
2. Nocturnal Shooting Mechanics & Floodlight Illumination
Unlike daytime outdoor sessions, night teer is staged under high-intensity halogen floodlights inside a weather-shielded pavilion. Archers shoot at illuminated cylindrical straw targets set at a regulation 45-yard indoor trajectory. The artificial illumination eliminates external wind and rain variables, but challenges shooters with light glare, shifting target shadows, and nocturnal eye fatigue. Seasoned veteran archers rely on disciplined form and tactile release techniques.
3. Late-Night Target Tabulation & Midnight Dispatch
Following each 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM round, authorized pavilion officials withdraw all penetrating arrows and tabulate the bundle on open counting tables. The winning number is derived strictly from the last two digits of the total score. A 1,023 arrow total yields 23; a 940 arrow total yields 40. Once reconciled, numbers are dispatched to licensed registers and digital public boards.
